Thankful Thursday

Speedy, who's mom talking to on da fone?
She's talking to dat nice Nick, yoo know, da guy dat takes care of da ferals at da skool. Why, did yoo hear what dey were talking about?
Something about a stranger eating der and kittens and...um, ::whispers::trapping
Yoo two are so nosy...
We'z not nosy, we is concerned!
Okay, I'll tell yoo what is going on. A new cat showed up at da feeding stations last week, two of da kids told Nick dey saw her der so he came to check on it. Turns out she's pregnant, very pregnant and Nick wants to get her so she can haf her babies in a safe place and den get spayed and dey can all gets 'dopted. He din't know what to do to get her to go into a trap to eat since he can't take effery cats food away. So, mom is calling da "trapper guy" to catch her. He'll put out what's called a "drop trap" and when she goes in to eat he'll catch her. Den Dr G, yes OUR Dr G, sez she can stay wif him until she haf her kits...he did just lose his 18 year old kitty and he can use da company. Besides, he's a ::shiver:: vet and knows how to take care of her.
Oh, dat is good...we know dat dey will all take good care of her. Wonder if she was 'bandoned out der by some bad beans...
Prolly, and dey din't get her a ladygardenectomy either...how rude!

Yes, it's true. A new kitty started showing up at the feeding stations a couple weeks ago and Nick says she's definitely pregnant. And kinda friendly, she came to him and ate canned food while he stood there and watched but when he tried to touch her she ran a little ways away but came right back. Dan the Trapper Man says she should be easy to catch and he'll get out there today (at feeding time) and catch her. And since I haven't really updated about this colony for awhile, you should know that out of the original 28 cats there 16 have been adopted into homes leaving only 12 cats there. How did all these cats get adopted? Word of mouth and Nick's family! They were all originally pretty friendly and with the kids from the school constantly paying them attention (recess is "cat play time" there) it wasn't hard. Our favorite vet has agreed to take her in, he just lost his 18 year old cat, who, by the way, was born in his garage, and is missing having a cat around. Don't tell anyone, but, when mom asked Dr G about putting up flyers and checking for micro-chips he said that anyone who would leave there un-neutered cat run around doesn't deserve to get her back. Oh, he'll check for a chip but that's it...no flyers, no searches...

So, this Thursday we are thankful for beans like Nick, Dan and Dr G who go out of their way to help kitties!

UPDATE: 1:30 pm - Dan went to check out the situation, to see where would be the best place to set the trap. It was lunchtime and a bunch of kids ran up to him and said "she's here right now, under one of the picnik tables, eating lunchmeat". So, he took out the trap and went over there. He put some tuna on a plate, stuck it in the trap and she walked right in! He said it was the easiest trap he's done in a long time. He brought her over and dad put her in the van and drover her over to the clinic for Dr G, she's there right now getting checked out and Dr G will call mom later and let her know what's up. Mom sez she's purrty, mostly grey wif white and some brown...like she was a white kitty dat someone splashed gray and brown paint spots on her head and back and den drew stripes on her tail.

That is how Gracie came to live with us. She didn't have a microchip and was roaming outside where it wasn't safe for her.

We are glad to hear that so many of the "feral" kitties found new homes.

Wow, sounds like a lot of caring people where you guys live!! That is wonderful! Best of luck to that sweet kitty and her future babies!

Funny you should mention this drop trap..... our mom was at her tnr meeting Tuesday night and the drop trap subject came up for trapping cats that won't go in a regular trap. Have you had much luck with the drop trap? They have a cat in one of their managed colonies whose eye exploded and his face has a huge abscess (he needs vet attention asap), he will not go in a regular trap and they were talking about constructing a drop trap for him.

I am so glad that you enjoyed the latest installment of the CCSI series. I want to let you know that there will be reruns all weekend long. I am providing free pop and popcorn for those attending the show over the weekend. Also there will be a little something for you to take back home with when you leave.

Happy Memorial Weekend Fun!
