Sunday...

Oliver
My best friend and former neighbor, the one I used to watch thru our office window and who used to come over and talk to me when we were outside, the one that moved away. You may remember a few years ago he got hit by a car and ruptured his diaphram and broke his leg and had major surgery to save his life. Well, he came to visit me yesterday! It was super fun, Sadie remembered him and hissed hello then ran into the back room to hide. Speedy greeted him like a long lost brofur wif a sniff or two den he just laid down on his Gizzy and observed. I on the other hand was ankshus fur him to come out of da carrier and play and talk and lounge wif me. We had a nice afternoon together and it was over all to soon. I sure miss him. Mom misses his mom, Germaine, too. Dey hadded tea and talked and laffed and mom sniffled a little bit when dey left. In other news, it's been below zero here with really scary wind chills. Now Nick is a wonder with the feral colony he's taking care of but mom still worried about them so she went over there one very cold evening just to check. Her and dad stuck thermometers inside the shelters and guess what, it was 55 degrees inside da shelters! Dat heat set up dat Nick made fur dem is amazing! He told mom he had to "up the amps" on the water dishes to keep ice from forming but they were all still water and mom took da temp and it was 38 degree water. She also went to the other colony with their caretaker on Thursday morning and added "thermal wrap" (which is like a nylon blanket with thinsulate) to the shelters. Theirs were only 40 degrees but dat is better den da below zero it was outside! We worry about all the ones that don't have a caretaker or a warm home. We hope they found warm places to hide.

Oliver is GORgeous! Zippy, we are happy that you had such a fun playdate.

We are thrilled to hear how well the heating system is working. Nick sounds like such a wonderful young man.

It's great when old friends come over for tea isn't it? Oliver is a lovely mancat and I'm glad you all remembered him and got on so well. Young Nick is doing a sterling job for the colony, keeping them so warm and safe - maybe there's a market for his feral house heating system so managed colonies everywhere could benefit?

Oliver is very handsome! That was nice to get some visitors.

It is bitterly cold up here! We are always worrying about the animals outside. Your colonies seem to be managing pretty good! Thank Heavens they have such dedicated caregivers!

Next time your Mom sees Nick, can she give him a smooch from me?

Hooray for Nick and his heating set up. The outdoor kitties must be very thankful that he is so clever.

And hearing that the feral colony's shelter is a comfortable place for them makes us smile too! Happy Sunday to you Sadie and Speedy!

Thanks for the info about the development of the heating/housing system. Nick has a very bright future ahead of him I think. To be able to come up with something that could solve one of the many issues surrounding TNR colonies is just mind blowingly good. We'll be following this one closely - European ferals could benefit too!

Big props to you all!

Hi zippy, sadie and speedy. How nice Oliver came to visit! I remember when he got hurt and how he got healed up with lots of love and people care. He looks very handsome and healthy now.

Thanks to all of you and your mombean for the advice about Grey Cat. Unfortunately the Pink People are the world's worst neighbors and you never know how they will react to anything you say to them.

My People will feed the Grey Cat where I can't see it. I don't want an interloper cat in the house. I told them I've been reading Jeter's blog and know what to do if they try to let another cat in!

We send lots of love and warm hugs to you and your beans for all of the care you are giving to the outdoor kitties.

Purrs, Halloween

We like to send purrs for the homeless kitties, especially when it's cold. Unfortunately, with the economy being as it is, more people are abandonning their animal companions.

Our mom worries about the poor outside cats in the winter even though it is warmer some in the high desert but still it gets below freezing some nights.

Your mom and dad and the Nick guy are so wonderful to help take care of feral colonies.

We have one organization in Albuquerque that helps feral colonies and does lots of other good that my mom contributes to and helps whenever she can.
